Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in, Microsoft Word document file format.
  • All references use the Harvard system
  • The text is in Arial 12 point face; 1.5 line spacing; headings and subheadings are in bold aligned left and not underlined
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines below
  • Copyright clearance has been obtained for any 3rd party content included in the submission

Author Guidelines

Spark only accepts contributions from LJMU undergraduates and recent graduates in Education Studies, Early Childhood Studies and related disciplines. Both staff and students may suggest pieces of undergraduate work for publication in Spark. This may be work previously submitted for assessment, or an original piece based on the student’s own research interests. If based on an assessed piece of work, this should have received a mark of at least a first or have a significant portion which merits that mark. Non-assessed pieces should be of an equivalent standard.

Authors should ensure that their articles use

Font - Arial 12

Line spacing - 1.5

Headings and subheadings should be in bold, aligned left and not underlined.

Quotations that are longer than four lines in length should be indented from the left hand margin and have a clear line space from the text above and below the quotation. The date and page number should be inserted at the end of the quotation.

All references should be made using the Harvard system.
