Abstract

EDIpedia was conceived in 2020 as an LJMU curriculum-enhancement project, funded by the Teaching and Learning Academy. It recognises that contemporary science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) curricula do not reflect the full diversity of the historic and contemporary global research community. EDIpedia is a virtual repository of profiles of scholars from underrepresented groups who have contributed to the development of specific STEM-discipline knowledge. These online biographies were prepared by nine student interns over two years, being initiated as part of the ‘whiteness and the curriculum’ work cited in our access and participation plan 2020-25. This presentation will provide a background to the work and recent developments that have involved collaboration with IT Services, the HR EDI team, Legal & Governance Services and Estates & Facilities management; a good example of ‘LJMU Together’. Student interns will provide personal perspectives on their project work, the challenges it presented, and the opportunities that it facilitated. EDIpedia has stimulated interest from the University of Liverpool and is fully aligned with our new institutional vision, notably our values of promoting inclusivity and being student focussed.
