Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • Copyright clearance has been obtained for any 3rd party content included in the submission

Viewpoints

Viewpoint papers - short, snappy column pieces aimed at airing interesting ideas about learning and teaching and intended to stimulate further thinking, ideally from colleagues with an authoritative and experienced perspective (suggested word count, 2000-2500)

Research in Practice

Research in Practice case studies should be based on learning or teaching in practice, typically describing: the organisational, historical and social context, technical specifications of the project, discussion of pedagogy, implementation, evaluation and limitations (suggested word count, 3000-5000).

Research in Practice articles – longer papers, providing a clear rationale for the study within the body of published research, an overview of the research methodology adopted, a presentation of findings and discussion in relation to existing knowledge (suggested word count, 5000-7000

Reviews

Book reviews should be in the region of 750 to 1000 words and must be related to Higher Education (practice and policy). Technology reviews should be in the region of 1000 to 1250 words and must indicate relationship to teaching, learning or pedagogy.
