This is about a choice: stay in the past/move forward.
Dyed lilies represent the past. A love lost. I used to receive bunches of those from my partner, and that always made my day better. Now, in this illustration, lilies became a symbol of everything we went through together, and something that's difficult to let go of.
Where I come from, swallow birds fly low to the ground just when it is about to rain, and so I like to use them as a symbol of change through pain. The illustrated bird is holding a key; could be a key to a better future, ready to be grabbed, once you're ready to move on. But it can fly away anytime, so a decision has to be made quick.
As for the hands on chest, they represent self-trust and intuitive knowing.
The piece was created to help me cope with my feelings, and there is nothing deeper to it.
I hope it inspires someone out there to create, too.
