Author Guidelines

1. Article types

JMTI considers the following manuscript types:

a. Original Research Article
Full-length papers presenting novel methods, models, data analyses, experiments, or validated case studies.

b. Review Article
Systematic reviews, structured literature reviews, bibliometric studies, or critical reviews that provide new synthesis and research directions.

c. Case Study and Practice Paper
High-value industrial, operational, or policy case studies, provided the methodology is transparent and the contribution extends beyond description.

If you are unsure which category fits best, submit as an Original Research Article and note your preferred category in the cover letter.

2. Before you submit

Authors are expected to ensure that submissions meet the following criteria:

  • The manuscript is within the journal scope and has a clear contribution.
  • The work is original and not under consideration elsewhere.
  • All authors approve the submission and the author order.
  • Any necessary permissions, ethics approvals, and conflict-of-interest declarations are in place.
  • Data, code, and materials statements are included where applicable.

3. Submission process

A complete submission typically includes:

  • Manuscript file (main text, figures, tables, and captions, unless uploaded separately)
  • Cover letter (recommended)
  • Highlights or keywords (if requested by the system)
  • Conflict of interest statement
  • Data availability statement
  • Any supplementary material (appendices, datasets, code links, additional figures)

4. Manuscript preparation

4.1 Language and style

  • Manuscripts must be written in clear academic English.
  • Use consistent terminology and define acronyms at first use.
  • Use SI units. If other units are necessary, provide SI equivalents.

4.2 Figures and tables

  • Each figure and table must be cited in the text in numerical order.
  • Provide informative captions that allow the figure or table to be understood independently.
  • Ensure axes and legends are readable, with units clearly indicated.
  • Avoid excessive decorative styling. Prioritise clarity and consistency.

File guidance:

  • Figures should be submitted in high resolution. Preferred formats: PNG, TIFF, EPS, PDF (for vector graphics).
  • If figures are embedded in the manuscript, also upload the original figure files when possible.

4.3 Equations and symbols

  • Define symbols on first appearance.
  • Use consistent notation throughout.
  • Number equations that are referenced later.

4.4 Formatting

  • Acceptable manuscript formats: [Word]
  • Authors are encouraged to prepare submissions using the journal template available on the journal website: [Template download link].
  • Number pages and use line numbers if possible, as this improves review quality.

5. References and citations

5.1 In-text citation style

Use author-year citations in the text (for example, Smith and Jones, 2022).

5.2 Reference list format

JMTI recommends a consistent reference format. If you would like to align with your preferred house style, you can use the following format (commonly used in your conference materials):

Journal article
Author(s). (Year). Title. Journal, volume, pp. pages. (IF: x.xxx).

Conference paper
Author(s)., Title, Date, Conference name, Venue/Host, Location.

Book
Author(s). (Year). Title. Publisher, City.

Report
Organisation/Author(s). (Year). Title. Report number (if any). Publisher/Organisation.

Web resource
Organisation/Author. (Year or access year). Title. Accessed date.

If you prefer a different standard (for example, Elsevier Harvard, IEEE), tell me which one and I will rewrite this section to match exactly.

6. Data, code, and reproducibility

JMTI strongly encourages transparent and reproducible research.

Authors should include a Data Availability Statement describing:

  • Whether data are publicly available, and where
  • Any access conditions or restrictions
  • If data cannot be shared, a clear justification (for example, confidentiality or licensing)

For computational studies, authors are encouraged to provide:

  • Source code repository link (GitHub, GitLab, institutional repository)
  • Software versions and dependencies
  • Key parameters and configuration files
  • Random seeds and replication instructions where relevant

7. Ethics, integrity, and conflicts of interest

7.1 Publication ethics

  • Plagiarism, duplicate submission, fabricated data, and manipulated results are not acceptable.
  • All submissions may be screened for similarity.

7.2 Authorship

Authorship should reflect substantial contributions to the study design, analysis, writing, and approval of the final manuscript. Any changes to authorship after submission must be justified and approved by all authors.

7.3 Conflicts of interest

Authors must disclose any financial or non-financial conflicts that could be perceived to influence the work.

7.4 Use of AI tools

If generative AI tools are used to assist writing, coding, translation, or figure creation, authors should:

  • Clearly state the tool and purpose in an acknowledgement or methods note
  • Confirm that authors verified the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the final manuscript
AI tools should not be listed as authors.
